Since 2013 we have been the architect’s for Canberra’s National Zoo and Aquarium.

We have assisted the Zoo in designing and obtaining approvals for new facilities and accommodation for both visitors and animals.

In the last four years the NZA has opened multiple new animal enclosures for Siamangs, Rhinocerous, Ostriches, Hyenas and many more. At the centre of the new open–plains style extension there is a viewing park with visitor facilities, cabanas and BBQs all in a beautiful landscaped setting. Currently under construction is the centre piece for this park, a large bistro and gift shop with a children’s playground to follow.

The NZA offers the ultimate overnight safari, hosting guests in amazing African themed accommodation including the Ushaka Lodge, Giraffe Tree Houses and Jungle Bungalows.  We have enjoyed assisting the zoo in creating such a unique experience for its visitors.

It is never a dull day at Steve Andrea Architecture when there is a site visit to the zoo.
